Introduction

This section covers installation, configuration, and day-to-day use of Not Diamond Code with Claude Code.

Not Diamond Code selects the model and reasoning effort before each user and subagent turn, while engineers continue using the standard Claude Code interface.

Get up and running in three steps:

  1. Install the proxy: platform-specific instructions for macOS, Linux, and Windows
  2. Run notdiamond init: Sign in and configure your workspace and credentials
  3. Launch Claude Code: Use notdiamond claude instead of claude

That’s it. Continue using Claude Code as usual. Your session activity, usage, and savings will appear in the dashboard.

  • Install: Step-by-step setup for every platform
  • Usage: Day-to-day commands, monitoring, and viewing your usage and savings
  • Configuration: Customize routing thresholds, and proxy settings
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve common issues

If you’re evaluating or deploying Not Diamond Code for your organization:

  • Data & Privacy: Understand what data we collect, how long we retain it, and compliance details

A lightweight proxy runs locally on each engineer’s machine. When Claude Code makes a request, the proxy:

  1. Intercepts the request
  2. Queries the Not Diamond optimization service for a model and reasoning-effort recommendation
  3. Forwards the request to that model
  4. Streams the response back to Claude Code

Engineers see no difference in the UI. Admins get visibility into tier usage, cost, and savings via the dashboard.

See the Data Dictionary for the fields sent to Not Diamond and Data Retention for retention details.
